Deborah Funches (Camas, WA)
After establishing her brand, Deborah Funches Jewelry, in 2003 and making her mark with brightly colored Czech-crystal-and-glass flower creations, in 2015, Camas, Washington-based artist Deborah Funches launched Shift Accessories. From a desire to expand and elevate personalized jewelry options, the new line of delicate, hand-formed and carefully stamped steel and bronze jewelry came to life. Shift Accessories offers finished pieces and custom-designed jewelry assembled with poignant icons, colors and typography that resonate with the individual. Clients can choose one or several elements from an array of handmade initials, birthstones, fingerprints of children, words, phrases, symbols and dates. The possibilities are endless. Pieces from Shift Accessories are created from metal powder clay consisting of steel or bronze. Once molded and stamped by hand, each piece is kiln fired and becomes a solid piece of steel or bronze. Some elements are designed to retain their raw, organic feel, while others bear the quiet sparkle of semi-precious stones, cubic zirconia, Swarovski crystal or Czech glass. The creations are strung on chain of sterling plate, oxidized silver or 14k gold plate. Reflecting Deborah’s love for all things vintage, the collection’s logo is a shift key from an antique typewriter. To the artist, it’s a symbol of her work: reimagining what was and celebrating what will be. She explains, “The ‘shift’ concept inspired me because of the constant shifting we are constantly doing, whether it is a shift in direction, a shift in perspective or a shift in attitude. Sometimes it’s welcome, sometimes it’s painful, but always it will result in beauty and positivity.”
